Seisenbergklamm, Natural monument in Weißbach bei Lofer, Austria.
Seisenbergklamm is a narrow gorge near Weißbach bei Lofer that stretches 600 meters through rock formations. Wooden walkways and stone steps guide visitors safely above the stream and along the steep walls.
The gorge originally served woodcutters who transported logs through its waters and received its first walking path in 1831. It gained protection as a natural monument in 1974.
The Seisenbergklamm incorporates educational stations along its path, teaching visitors about regional bird sounds and native plant species identification.
Access is seasonal, generally available from May to October during daylight hours. Sturdy footwear is necessary because walkways can be wet and slippery.
The rock walls block most sunlight and create a damp climate where rare mosses and ferns thrive. This specialized environment has developed its own distinct plant life.
