Pfenningberg, Mountain summit near Steyregg, Austria.
Pfenningberg is a mountain summit reaching 616 meters in elevation with ancient beech forests lining the way up. The route passes through varied terrain and landscape types as it climbs toward the peak.
The hiking trail to the summit was developed in 2019 through a municipal initiative called Agenda 2000. This marked a turning point in expanding outdoor recreation opportunities in the area.
The path features religious artworks in steel and granite that form a way of the cross, passing the Saint Stephen parish church along the route. These sculptures invite walkers to pause and reflect during their climb.
The round trip covers about 4.2 kilometers with roughly 360 meters of elevation gain, taking varying amounts of time depending on fitness level. You can reach the area from Linz by S3 train or buses 360 and 361.
Near the highest point before entering the dense forest, 13 stone pillars form a circle marking the final station of the journey. This arrangement creates a reflective space that feels quite different from the rest of the trail.
