Buchsteinhaus is a mountain hut situated in the Ennstal Alps at 1546 meters elevation, positioned below the southwestern face of Großer Buchstein. The facility provides sleeping accommodations in dormitories, two dining areas, and a terrace overlooking the surrounding Alpine peaks.
The hut was constructed between 1921 and 1924, with 200 volunteers transporting building materials such as larch wood and bricks to the high-altitude site. A complete renovation took place between 2008 and 2010, modernizing the entire facility.
The mountain hut belongs to the Naturfreunde organization's Bad Ischl chapter, promoting outdoor activities and connection with Alpine nature through its facilities.
The hut is accessible via multiple hiking routes, with the path from the National Park pavilion over Brucksattel requiring about 3 hours of walking. These trails offer varying difficulty levels, allowing hikers to choose options suited to their fitness level.
The facility underwent complete reconstruction between 2008 and 2010, now featuring two dining rooms, large dormitories, and a panoramic terrace at this elevated location.
