Voisthaler Hütte, Mountain hut in Thörl, Austria
The Voisthaler Hütte is a mountain hut located in the Hochschwab group at 1,654 meters (5,429 feet) elevation, providing shelter for mountaineers exploring the Eastern Alps. It accommodates 48 guests in shared dormitories and operates during the warmer months from May through October.
The hut was first built in 1898 as a refuge for mountaineers exploring the high peaks. It underwent complete reconstruction from 2020 to 2022 to meet contemporary technical and hygiene standards.
The hut serves as a meeting point for climbers from across Europe and beyond who share a passion for alpine exploration. It fosters a sense of community among visitors from different countries.
Visitors should bring their own sleeping bags as the facility does not provide bedding. The hut is reached on foot via mountain trails that vary in duration depending on the starting point.
The newly built structure features local larch wood and earned environmental certification from the Austrian Alpine Association in 2022. This material comes from nearby forests and blends sustainability with traditional craftsmanship.
