Gfieder, Mountain summit in Ternitz, Austria.
Gfieder is a summit in the Northern Limestone Alps in Lower Austria standing at about 609 meters high. The peak is topped with an observation tower that provides views across the surrounding mountain region.
This mountain was recognized early on as an important observation point in the region. In 2004, the Austrian Tourist Club built a tower at the summit to improve access and views for visitors.
The Vierbrüderbaum, an ancient black pine on this summit, has served as a landmark for travelers for centuries. This old tree shapes how visitors experience the mountain today.
The mountain can be reached via a marked hiking trail starting from St. Johann, with the walk taking around two and a half hours. The path is clearly marked and suited for average hikers without special requirements.
From the viewing platform at the summit, several well-known peaks and landscapes can be seen at once, including Semmering and Schneeberg. This wide perspective makes it a destination for those wanting to see multiple regions in a single visit.
