Hintere Brandjochspitze, Mountain summit in Nordkette range, Austria.
Hintere Brandjochspitze is a 2,599-meter (8,527 feet) mountain in the Nordkette range, which extends through the Karwendel mountains in Tyrol. The summit sits very close to its neighboring peak, forming part of a cluster of mountains in the area.
The mountain received its first documented ascent in 1867 when Julius Pock reached the summit and established a route. This path remains the standard way climbers access the peak today.
The peak forms part of a popular climbing circuit in the region, where mountaineers practice their skills on accessible routes. It reflects how deeply alpine pursuits are woven into local mountain culture.
The climb from the neighboring peak is short and straightforward, making it easy to combine with other mountains in the area on a single day. Conditions can change quickly in this high alpine setting, so checking weather before starting is important.
The peak is composed largely of Wetterstein limestone, a rock type formed during the Triassic period millions of years ago. This geology gives the summit its pale coloring and helps shape the entire landscape of mountains here.
