Großer Bärenkopf, Mountain summit in Glockner Group, Austria.
The Großer Bärenkopf stands at 3,396 meters with two peaks separated by 300 meters, featuring firn-covered slopes on the northeast side and rocky faces elsewhere.
Karl Hofmann, Johann Stüdl, Thomas Groder, and Josef Schnell completed the first recorded climb of Großer Bärenkopf on September 18, 1869 during their mountain exploration.
The mountain forms part of the High Tauern National Park, marking the natural border between the Austrian states of Carinthia and Salzburg.
Climbers access the summit from Oberwalder Hut at 2,973 meters or Heinrich Schwaiger Haus at 2,802 meters, requiring glacier equipment and mountaineering experience.
The mountain presents different appearances depending on viewing angle, with a white firn surface from northeast and dark rock formations from other directions.
