Frauenwand

Frauenwand is an alpine summit in the Zillertal Alps reaching about 2,540 meters with striking granite rock faces. The peak sits in the northern section of this mountain range and offers multiple approach routes for hikers.

The mountain served as a key landmark for people crossing between valleys and helped mark territorial boundaries in the region. This role as a guiding point has persisted to the present day.

The name Frauenwand refers to the steep rock face and reflects how locals name their mountains based on what stands out visually. Walking up the trail, you understand why this name fits so well.

The climb from St. Jodok is a demanding hike with steep elevation gain that requires good fitness and mountain walking experience. Marked trails guide the way, but you need sure-footedness and should prepare for rapid weather changes at altitude.
