Fußstein

Fußstein is a granite mountain summit in the Zillertal Alps that rises steeply with a prominent rocky north face. The north ridge offers climbing routes of varying difficulty through the exposed rock formations.

Hermann Buhl completed the first recorded winter ascent in 1943, marking a significant moment in Austrian climbing history. This winter achievement demonstrated the skill required to attempt high peaks under harsh conditions.

This peak marks the boundary between three local communities and serves as a natural landmark in the regional identity of the Zillertal. The surrounding valleys maintain separate Alpine traditions that connect residents to the mountain and its landscape.

Visitors need proper climbing equipment and experience on rock faces, as the routes are technically demanding. Good weather conditions are essential, and previous mountaineering experience is strongly recommended.

The north ridge unfolds across multiple separate climbing pitches with varying angles and difficulty, creating a diverse climbing experience. This mix of different sections on one route offers climbers a chance to encounter varied challenges.
