The Museum of Art Fakes exhibits original forgeries, counterfeits, and replicas from notorious art forgers alongside detailed explanations of their techniques and methods.
Founded in 2005, this institution became the first museum worldwide dedicated exclusively to investigating and displaying authenticated art forgeries and their associated stories.
The museum presents works from famous forgers including Han van Meegeren, Konrad Kujau, and Edgar Mrugalla, who created reproductions of masterpieces by renowned artists.
Located opposite the Hundertwasser House, the museum offers guided tours in multiple languages from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 and 17:00, with tickets priced at 8 euros.
Each displayed forgery contains specific markers or 'time bombs' intentionally inserted by their creators to prove their involvement in the manufacturing process.
