Rothmühle, Medieval mill and château in Schwechat, Austria

The Rothmühle building contains both a mill structure and a château section, featuring decorative frescos in its main hall and a chapel.

First mentioned in 1244, the mill transformed into a château when nobleman Ambrossy di Ferrari purchased and reconstructed the building in 1593.

Since 1973, the Rothmühle château hosts annual Nestroy theater performances, making it a central location for regional performing arts.

The renovated building now functions as a bed and breakfast establishment while serving as a venue for seminars, weddings, and cultural events.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed his early work 'Bastien and Bastienne' at Rothmühle in 1773 during his stay at the château.
