Kameltheater Kernhof is a private animal park in Kernhof, part of Sankt Aegyd am Neuwalde in Lower Austria, about 50 km south of St. Pölten. It combines a 250-seat theatre where Bactrian camels and other animals perform simple plays for children with a "White Zoo" housing white tigers, snow leopards, albino Bennett's wallabies and Reeve's muntjacs. A red-painted observation tower, the Sepp-Forcher-Aussichtswarte, stands at the highest point of the grounds.
Herbert Eder, a travel agency owner who had lived in Jordan, founded the camel theatre; the zoo section opened in 2000. In 2005 the company received the Lower Austrian Tourism Prize. A dispute with the German Safaripark Stukenbrock over the ownership of three white tiger cubs born in 2011 was settled in June 2012.
The theatre was founded by travel agency owner Herbert Eder, who had lived in Jordan, and its exotic camel shows drew wide media coverage in Austria. The adjoining zoo opened in 2000. In 2005 the company received the Lower Austrian Tourism Prize. The white tiger births, including Europe's first healthy quintuplets in 2014, made the site widely known.
The theatre seats about 250 spectators and is played only in the summer half-year, so visits outside that season will not include a show. The animal park adjoins the theatre on the slope; the red Sepp-Forcher observation tower stands at the highest point of the grounds and gives an overview of the whole site and the surrounding landscape.
The white tiger quintuplets born in April 2014 — Lali, Lela, Lila, Lulu and Obama, four females and one male — were a first in Europe. The zoo also keeps albino Bennett's wallabies and Reeve's muntjac, and its snow leopards are part of an international breeding programme.
