Salzachgeier

The Salzachgeier rises to 2469 meters above sea level, marking the border between Salzburg and Tyrol provinces in the Kitzbühel Alps mountain range.

The mountain stands as a geological formation shaped during the Alpine orogeny period when rock layers were compressed and pushed toward the northern edge.

Local mountaineering traditions include regular ascents to Salzachgeier's peak from both Wald im Pinzgau and Hopfgarten im Brixental starting points.

Hikers can reach the summit through an 18.8-kilometer trail starting at Gasthof Wegscheid, passing the Neue Bamberger Hütte for rest and refreshments.

The mountain terrain features a combination of forest paths and steep alpine sections, with a small wooden chapel called Markkirchl positioned on the state border.
