Skigebiet Dachsteingletscher, Ski resort in Styria, Austria.
Skigebiet Dachsteingletscher is a glacier ski area in the Dachstein Massif in Styria, sitting between roughly 2,300 and 2,700 meters (7,500 and 8,900 ft) above sea level. The area has several runs suited to intermediate and advanced skiers, and an underground ice cave with natural formations sits nearby.
The ski area was developed in the mid-20th century and was among the first glacier ski areas in the Alps to open to the public. Its lifts and facilities have been updated several times since then to keep pace with changing visitor needs.
The name refers directly to the Dachstein glacier that shapes the landscape here. Visitors who have time after skiing can explore the nearby ice cave, where natural ice formations have been drawing curious travelers for generations.
Glacier conditions often allow skiing from autumn through spring, though the core winter months tend to offer the most reliable snow. At this elevation weather can change fast, so warm layers and sturdy footwear are a must regardless of the season.
The area has a glass Sky Walk with a suspension bridge that sits high above the surrounding alpine terrain, offering a view that has nothing to do with skiing. This structure brings in a steady flow of visitors who come purely to walk across it, even outside the ski season.
