Gjaidstein, Mountain summit in Dachstein range, Austria
The Gjaidstein peak stands at 2,794 meters above sea level, forming a limestone formation within the Dachstein Mountains of Upper Austria.
The initial documented climb of Gjaidstein occurred in 1823 when explorer de Halley successfully reached the summit from the northern Gjaid cirque.
The mountain exists within the region of Hallstatt, where salt mining traditions extend back through multiple generations of Alpine communities.
Two primary access routes lead to the summit: through the Dachstein South Face Cable Car station or by following the path from Simony Hut.
The mountain features three distinct peaks: the main Gjaidstein at 2,794 meters, Kleinen Gjaidstein at 2,734 meters, and Niederen Gjaidstein at 2,482 meters.
