Straubinger Haus, Mountain hut in Kössen, Austria
The Straubinger Haus is a mountain hut located at about 1550 meters elevation on Eggenalm and offers views of the Wilder Kaiser range from its sun terrace. The facility provides sanitary facilities, showers, and about 80 sleeping places distributed throughout the building.
The hut was established in 1978 and underwent major renovation in 1999, after which it has been operated by the German Alpine Club. This renewal marked an important modernization for continued use as year-round accommodation.
The hut serves regional specialties across its dining spaces and upholds traditional Alpine hospitality in its daily operations. Visitors experience the everyday rhythm of mountain lodge life with its distinctive approach to welcoming guests.
The hut is open from early May through early November and can be accessed from Blindau or Seegatterl. The walking route from the valley takes about two to three hours depending on your fitness level and the path you choose.
The hut holds an environmental certification for Alpine lodges and takes its name from its location on a traditional mountain pasture farm. This connection to mountain agriculture continues to shape the character and surroundings of the place.
