Passauer Hütte, Mountain hut in Weißbach bei Lofer, Austria.
Passauer Hütte is a mountain hut in the Leoganger Steinberge range, situated at 2051 meters between the Birnhorn and Fahnenköpfl peaks. The shelter provides overnight accommodations and basic meals for mountaineers and hikers passing through the high alpine zone.
The hut was built in 1892 by an Alpine association and initially served as an unmanned shelter for mountain travelers. From 1906 onward, permanent staff maintained the facility as visitor numbers increased significantly.
The hut maintains traditional alpine hospitality standards while implementing modern sustainable practices, earning environmental certification for its commitment to mountain preservation.
The hut can be reached via several hiking trails, with the main route spanning approximately eleven kilometers and climbing about 1200 meters from the valley. Visitors should be prepared with proper gear and expect a strenuous climb requiring good physical condition.
The hut sources its water from a spring located roughly one and a half kilometers away and generates electricity through solar panels and small hydroelectric systems. This remote setup allows the facility to operate independently from external utilities.
