Schweikert, Mountain summit in Kaunergrat, Austria

Schweikert is a 2,879 m summit in the Kaunergrat of the Ötztal Alps, in Tyrol, Austria. It is the second-highest elevation of the Hochrinnegg massif, whose double peak reaches 3,067 and 3,027 m. The mountain lies on the east-west ridge north of the Verpeiltal, a side valley branching east from the Kaunertal, with the Gsalltal to the north and the Kaunertal to the west.

The first documented tourist ascent of Schweikert was made in 1893 by S. Simon. The peak, 2879 m high (other sources give 2881 m), lies in the east-west ridge of the Hochrinnegg massif north of the Verpeiltal, a side valley branching east from the Kaunertal. Its easy access from the Verpeilhütte made it a popular tour destination.

The Verpeilhütte at 2025 m in the Verpeiltal serves as the base for most ascents; from it the summit is reached in about 2½ hours. The drilled sport climbing route Wiesa Jaggl, 12 pitches with key sections at UIAA VII-, was opened in 2004 by Florian Schranz and Matthias Ragg on the mountain.

Marked trails lead to the summit, with the main route starting from Kaunertal valley and requiring solid mountain experience. Plan the ascent in good weather conditions, as the higher sections demand care due to exposed terrain and steep passages.

The first documented tourist ascent was made in 1893 by S. Simon. On the northwest ridge, climbers find routes of UIAA grade III to IV, and in 2004 Florian Schranz and Matthias Ragg opened the bolted sport route "Wiesa Jaggl" with 12 pitches and key sections at UIAA VII-.
