Schloss Fünfkirchen

Schloss Fünfkirchen is a four-winged Renaissance castle situated on a hilltop in the municipality of Drasenhofen in Lower Austria. The structure was later modified in the baroque style, and its architectural form continues to define the character of the surrounding landscape.

Johann Bernhard von Fünfkirchen built the castle in 1602 upon the remains of a late medieval fortress. In the early 1700s, it underwent baroque renovations and modifications under Count Johann Adam.

The stuccoed hall features traces of painted frescoes from the 18th century that hint at the refined lifestyle of its former inhabitants. Visitors can sense how the baroque decoration reflected the status and taste of the noble family who lived here.

The castle remains in private ownership with no public access to the interior, but its elevated location offers good views across the surrounding area. The exterior can be appreciated from nearby paths and roads that pass through the region.

Napoleon Bonaparte spent one night at the castle during his 1805 military campaign through Austria. This brief visit connected the fortress to one of Europe's most pivotal historical moments.
