Wangenitzseehütte, Mountain hut at 2508 meters in Mörtschach, Austria.
Wangenitzseehütte is a mountain hut at 2508 meters (8,228 ft) in the High Tauern and sits beside a deep blue lake within the Schobergruppe range. The building provides accommodation with various rooms, washrooms, and a dedicated drying room for mountaineering gear.
The original building was built in 1927 by the German Alpine Club and was destroyed in 1947. Reconstruction took place in 1966 and created the current structure.
The name comes from the lake nearby, and it draws mountaineers from around the world who spend time here among Alpine meadows and rocky peaks. The hut works as a meeting point for people seeking to experience nature intensely.
The hut operates from June to September and can accommodate around 50 people across different sleeping areas and communal spaces. A winter room with space for a few guests allows stays outside the season, but advance notice is required.
Next to the hut there is a climbing garden with various difficulty levels that allows visitors to test their skills on natural rock. This facility offers training opportunities for beginners and experienced climbers alike right where they stay.
