Wanglspitze, Mountain summit in Tyrol, Austria
Wanglspitze is a mountain in Tyrol that rises to 2,420 meters (7,940 feet). It features slopes covered with alpine meadows at lower elevations that transition to rockier terrain higher up, with multiple routes leading to its peak.
The mountain became accessible to hikers in the 1960s with the development of lift systems in the Zillertal valley. Since then, it has been regularly used by both recreational climbers and mountain walkers.
Local mountaineers maintain traditional summit markers and crosses at the peak, following centuries-old Alpine customs of marking significant elevations.
The Finkenbergbahn gondola provides access to the starting point, from where a route of about 10 kilometers (6 miles) leads to the summit. This route mixes jeep roads and mountain paths, creating varied terrain.
From the summit, you can see across the entire Zillertal valley, and during summer months, the sound of bells from grazing cattle on the alpine meadows carries up from below. This combination of wide views and traditional Alpine sounds creates a distinctive mountain experience.
