The Bisamberg Water Reservoir is a drinking water storage facility on the eastern slope of Bisamberg mountain in Vienna's Stammersdorf district. It consists of two chambers that hold approximately 60,000 cubic meters of water to supply the city's water system.
Construction of this facility began with a foundation stone ceremony on November 8, 1993. The completed reservoir was inaugurated on September 18, 1996 and began operating shortly after.
The exterior features artistic elements: wave-shaped blue concrete walls and enameled steel sculptures depicting fish, mermaids, and water spirits created by Austrian artist Gottfried Kumpf. These decorative details give the structure a distinctive artistic character that sets it apart from typical utility buildings.
The reservoir is viewable from outside, though the best vantage points are from the eastern slope of the mountain. Visitors should approach from the surrounding area to see both the structure and its decorative artistic elements clearly.
The facility supplies roughly 100,000 households across two districts of the city through a single pipeline connection. This straightforward engineering design choice resulted in major savings during construction.
