Altmannsdorfer Kirche, Religious building in Meidling, Austria.
Altmannsdorfer Kirche is a church building in Vienna's Meidling district featuring a single nave and straight choir closure. The tower rises in a north-south orientation and forms a distinctive part of the local skyline.
The church traces back to its first mention in 1290 as Oswald Chapel in Altmannsdorf, but was entirely rebuilt in 1838 according to plans by architect Franz Xaver Lössl. This reconstruction transformed it from a small chapel into a substantial parish church for the district.
The church is dedicated to Saint Oswald, whose image appears on the high altar inside. The interior displays paintings by leading Austrian artists from the 1800s that shape the experience of worship.
A visit to the church requires respectful behavior and modest clothing, as it remains an active place of worship. Local public transportation provides good connections to the rest of Meidling and other parts of Vienna.
A stone statue of Saint Augustine from 1723 stands in front of the building, originally designed to function as a fountain. This unusual artwork combines religious devotion with practical water supply from an earlier era.
