Meidling, Administrative district in southern Vienna, Austria.
Meidling is a district in southern Vienna that extends from Wienerberg hill toward Schönbrunn Palace and includes several distinct neighborhoods. The area features Gaudenzdorf, Hetzendorf, and Altmannsdorf at an elevation of 218 meters (715 feet), creating a varied urban landscape with both residential and cultural spaces.
The district was first mentioned in 1104 as Murlingen and underwent major transformation after hot springs were discovered in 1755. This discovery changed the area from vineyards and orchards into an industrial zone that shaped its modern character.
The district's name comes from a small town that once existed here, and this heritage lives on through local museums and landmarks. Schloss Hetzendorf displays fashion collections from different periods, allowing visitors to explore how clothing and style evolved over time.
Wien Meidling station connects to two subway lines, multiple tram routes, and regional trains, making it one of Austria's most important transportation hubs. This excellent accessibility makes it easy to explore the district and reach other parts of Vienna.
Haydnpark was built on a former cemetery and still preserves the tombstone of a famous composer within its green space. This unusual combination transforms a recreational area into a place where visitors encounter history as they walk through the park.
