Hirschberg, Mountain summit in western Austria
Hirschberg is a mountain summit in western Austria near the border with Germany. From the top you can see across the Alpine landscape to surrounding peaks and down into the valleys below.
The mountain appeared on maps made during the Austro-Hungarian Empire as a reference point for the region. Local communities later used routes crossing these slopes to travel between villages.
The name comes from deer that once roamed these slopes abundantly. Today visitors walk through the same terrain that shaped the wildlife traditions of the region.
You can reach the summit via marked hiking trails that are walkable throughout the year with proper mountain boots and gear. Weather conditions change quickly at this altitude so check conditions before heading out.
On clear days you can see both Austrian and German territory from this vantage point. The location sits right at the border line between the two countries.
