Kreuzjoch, Mountain summit in Verwall Alps, Austria.
Kreuzjoch is a mountain peak in the Verwall Alps standing at 2,398 meters between Schruns and St. Gallenkirch in Vorarlberg. The summit sits on the divide between two valleys and can be reached via marked hiking trails that connect the local villages.
Mountain paths to the summit were developed in the 19th century to enable access for mountaineers and local travelers. These routes became part of a larger network of trails connecting communities in the Verwall Alps.
The surrounding mountain communities maintain traditional Alpine practices through seasonal festivals and activities centered around the Verwall mountain range.
The climb requires good physical fitness and mountain hiking experience, as trails are steep and partly exposed. The Wormser Hütte mountain shelter sits below the summit and serves as a useful base or stopping point for visitors.
The peak sits on the Zentralalpenweg 02A hiking route that links a series of Alpine passes and summits. Following this trail allows visitors to traverse multiple ridgelines without descending to lower valleys.
