Michaelerberg, Mountain summit in Vienna, Austria

Michaelerberg is a 387 m high hill in Vienna's 17th district, Hernals, in the northern Wienerwald. Although it lies in Hernals, the district of Währing surrounds it on three sides. The hill is entirely covered by mixed oak forest, with Turkey oak especially widespread, and the Schafberg rises nearby. At the foot of its southern slope lies the small-garden settlement Michaelerwiese.

The sources record no medieval or urban-history role for Michaelerberg; it lies in the northern Wienerwald in Hernals, on three sides enclosed by Währing, and is entirely covered by oak mixed forest in which the Austrian oak (Quercus cerris) is widespread. At the foot of its southern slope stands the allotment garden settlement Michaelerwiese.

The name Michaelerberg refers to Saint Michael, though the sources do not explain the connection. The hill lies in Hernals but is enclosed on three sides by Währing. At its southern foot is the Kleingartensiedlung Michaelerwiese, a small-garden colony whose name echoes the hill's name.
