Platte

Platte is a mountain summit in the Grazer Bergland range that reaches 651 meters in elevation and features a flat, tree-surrounded peak area. The plateau-shaped summit spreads across roughly one hectare and forms a natural clearing where multiple hiking trails converge and branch out.

The site developed as a popular hiking destination during the 1800s when infrastructure was expanded to accommodate visitors. The paths and access points built during that period continue to shape how people experience this mountain today.

The name Platte reflects the local tradition of identifying landmarks by their shape, referring to the flat plateau that crowns this mountain. Visitors today still follow the same established routes that have connected the community to this elevated meeting point for generations.

Access to Platte is available through hiking trails that can be reached from several points around Graz, including the Hinterer Plattenweg route. The flat nature of the summit makes it relatively easy to walk across for visitors of varying abilities.

The summit hosts historic structures from the 1800s that document Graz's development as a hiking destination. These remains tell the story of early visitors who turned this location into a standard part of their mountain outings.
