Schrotturm, Klagenfurt, Industrial tower in Klagenfurt, Austria.
The Schrotturm is an industrial structure in Klagenfurt with a square base that tapers toward the top and finishes with a flat pyramid roof. It rises approximately 67 meters and shows the typical design of manufacturing facilities from the early 19th century.
The tower was constructed between 1814 and 1824 by Johann Ritter von Rainer zu Harbach as a shot pellet production facility. In the 1920s Adolf Wolf converted the former factory into an observation point and later operated a restaurant there until 1970.
The tower's name comes from shot pellet production, which gave this industrial structure its identity. Today visitors can observe the relief sculpture by Johann Ritter von Friedel on its exterior, which documents the manufacturing heritage that shaped this building.
The structure is not open to visitors and the surrounding property has remained empty since the restaurant closed in 1970. However the exterior and architecture can be viewed from outside, with the relief sculptures clearly visible from a distance.
From its summit the tower offered views across Lake Worthersee, a popular body of water in the region. This viewpoint made it an appealing destination for visitors wanting to see the surrounding landscape from above.
