Oberst Klinke-Hütte, Mountain hut in Admont, Austria
Oberst Klinke-Hütte is a mountain hut in the Gesäuse range in Styria, offering walkers a place to sleep and eat during their hikes. It has sleeping rooms, a dining area, and a kitchen that serves traditional mountain food.
The hut was founded in 1941 and quickly became a regular stopping point for hikers crossing the Styrian mountains. Over the decades it sheltered many generations of walkers making their way through the Gesäuse.
The hut is named after an Austrian military officer, which gives it a particular identity among the other shelters in the area. Hikers passing through often stop here to share a meal of dumplings or strudel, keeping alive a tradition of simple mountain hospitality.
The route to the hut starts from Admont and winds through forest and alpine trails, taking several hours on foot. It is best visited between May and September, when the paths are free of snow.
The hut sits at a point where several major trails through the Gesäuse converge, making it possible to move between different routes without retracing steps. This position allows walkers to plan longer loops that connect neighboring peaks in a single outing.
