Vorderälpele is a mountain pasture in Frastanz situated at roughly 1313 meters elevation, characterized by rolling hills and open green meadows. The landscape supports livestock grazing during summer months and displays the typical appearance of an alpine farming area.
In 1499, a battle took place here between Swiss forces and Habsburg troops allied with Tyrolean miners. The engagement resulted in the defeat of the Tyrolean and Habsburg side, marking a significant military encounter in the region.
The St. Wendelin chapel in Frastanz contains artifacts from the 1499 battle, including a sword and halberd stored under its roof.
Access is provided via a toll forestry road suitable for regular vehicles. The Naturfreunde organization operates a cable car system to their mountain hut, offering visitors an alternative to driving up the mountain.
Since 2019, a pumping system delivers drinking water from the valley below to serve the pasture. This modern solution resolved what had been a persistent water supply challenge for centuries.
