Kalbajar District

Kalbajar is an administrative district in western Azerbaijan featuring mountainous terrain and numerous settlements spread across the landscape. The region encompasses varied elevations where farming communities and small villages form the basis of local life.

The territory returned to Azerbaijani administration in November 2020 following a ceasefire agreement that concluded a major regional conflict. This transition marked a significant turning point in the district's recent trajectory.

The area holds the Khudavang Monastery in Vang village, an early Christian structure that reflects the region's religious heritage. Visitors can observe how this site remains a focal point for understanding the area's spiritual traditions.

The region is most accessible to visitors during warmer months when mountain paths and rural routes are easier to navigate. Those planning a visit should prepare for remote villages and limited modern services.

The region holds around 200 mineral springs, including the therapeutic Istisu springs valued for their healing properties. Some of these springs are found in remote mountain areas and attract visitors interested in traditional water treatments.
