Zar Cave

Zar Cave is a natural limestone cavern in Kalbajar featuring multiple chambers and interconnected passages. The cave system cuts through rock formations and reveals the geological character of this mountainous area.

The cave was archaeologically investigated between 1981 and 1987, revealing traces of Upper Paleolithic human occupation in the region. Excavations uncovered evidence of early human presence in this area thousands of years ago.

The cave displays the craftsmanship of early inhabitants through discovered tools like flint blades and bone combs found within its chambers. These objects offer insight into how people lived and worked in this region long ago.

Visiting the cave requires obtaining prior permission and coordinating with local authorities before your visit. Access is limited and carefully controlled to protect the site and its archaeological features.

The cave contains grinding boards marked with distinctive dents, providing evidence of early food processing practices. These markings indicate that inhabitants ground grains and seeds within the cave walls.
