Kechut Reservoir, Stausee in Armenien
Kechut Reservoir is a large water storage basin in Vayots Dzor, fed by the Arpa River and rainfall. The water flows through six petal-shaped tunnels that can be viewed from a viewing bridge above.
Construction of the dam began in 1967 and was completed in 1981, with a storage capacity of about 22.5 million liters. Since completion, it has supported agriculture and water management across the region.
The site is easily accessible by car and features a viewing bridge directly above the tunnels as well as walking paths nearby. It is open to visitors with no booking required or special dress code.
The six tunnels are arranged in a flower pattern and become particularly striking when high water levels cause water to flow through all six openings at once. This unusual design combines engineering function with visual interest in the landscape.
