Vayots Dzor Province

The territory stretches across 2,308 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with three ranges: Vardenis, Arpa, and Vayk, intersected by the Arpa River.

The region formed part of the Urartian Kingdom in the 8th century BC before becoming incorporated into the Kingdom of Armenia through successive centuries.

The University of Gladzor, established in 1280, operated as a center for higher education in the region until political changes in the 14th century.

The province maintains 40 rural communities and 3 urban settlements, with Yeghegnadzor serving as the administrative center for 52,324 inhabitants.

The Areni-1 cave complex contains a 6,000-year-old wine production facility, representing the earliest documented winery discovered on Earth.
