Spandaryan Reservoir, Water reservoir in Armenia

Spandaryan Reservoir is an artificial lake on the Vorotan River in northwestern Syunik Province, Armenia. It holds 257 million m³, making it the country's largest reservoir by volume. A 21.6 km tunnel links it to the Arpa River as part of the Vorotan–Arpa–Sevan water transfer system. Villages near its shores include Gorayk, Tsghuk, Sarnakunk and Spandaryan.

The reservoir was created on the Vorotan River in the north of Syunik Province, in the southeastern part of the Gorayk community. A 21.6 km tunnel links it to the Arpa River as part of the Vorotan–Arpa–Sevan water transfer system. Its water feeds the Spandaryan hydroelectric plant, the first station of the Vorotan cascade, followed by Shamb and Tatev. The area once held the Bazarcha canal, built in the 1850s and 1860s.

The reservoir takes its name from the village of Spandaryan, one of four settlements around its shores alongside Gorayk, Tsghuk and Sarnakunk. In the area once ran the Bazarchay canal, built in the 1850s and 1860s. The reservoir feeds the Spandaryan hydroelectric plant, the first station of the Vorotan cascade, followed by Shamb and Tatev.

The area is accessible by well-maintained mountain roads where you can drive or take a local bus to reach this peaceful location. The open landscape around the water offers good conditions for walking along the shore, especially during warmer months.

The reservoir feeds the Spandaryan hydroelectric plant, the first station in the Vorotan cascade, which continues with Shamb and Tatev. Water is diverted to Lake Sevan through the 21.6 km Vorotan-Arpa tunnel. The reservoir holds 257 million m³, the largest volume in Armenia.
