Lekh Castle

Lekh Castle is a medieval fortress in Qanlıkənd that rises high above the Lev River with strong fortified walls. The structure uses natural rock formations as part of its defense and contains multiple chambers that served for storage and living quarters.

The fortress was built during the Mongol invasions of the 13th and 14th centuries and played a key role in protecting trade routes. This strategic location made it an important point for controlling the region during that period.

The fortress carries different names across languages, each reflecting its importance to the communities that knew it. These names show how the place mattered to people on both sides of the region.

Access is from the northeast side, as the other sides are protected by steep rocky cliffs. Visitors should be sure-footed and note that the paths have rough surfaces to navigate.

The structure was built using rock formations on three sides as natural walls, saving construction materials. This clever approach allowed builders to work with the limited resources available in the mountain region.
