Duvno field

Duvno field is a large karst depression on a limestone plateau in Bosnia and Herzegovina that spreads across several kilometers. Water drains through sinkholes and underground caves, shaping the surface we see today.

The region was part of the medieval Croatian duchy of Tropolje from the 13th century onward. This political connection shaped the cultural history and settlement patterns of the area.

Local farmers use the flat terrain for crops and livestock, adapting their work to seasonal changes. This traditional practice shapes how the landscape looks and how daily life unfolds here.

The main road from Tomislavgrad connects to different parts of this depression and is the easiest way to explore the area. Wear sturdy shoes since the terrain can be uneven, and be prepared for sudden weather changes.

After rainfall, temporary lakes form in various spots and then drain into underground caverns. This changing landscape reveals how the land responds to water movement throughout the year.
