Chandranath Temple

Chandranath Temple sits on Chandranath Hill at an elevation of about 350 meters and displays marble architecture with fine engravings throughout its structure. The building occupies the hilltop and serves as a focal point for the surrounding landscape.

The temple gained prominence under the rule of Dhanya Manikya of Tripura, who provided substantial endowments to strengthen its standing as a religious center. This early support laid the foundation for its development into an important site.

The temple draws thousands of Hindu devotees during the annual Shiva Chaturdashi festival in February, who gather to perform traditional religious ceremonies here. These gatherings show how this place remains an important meeting point for the community today.

To reach the temple, you trek about 3.5 kilometers east from Sitakunda Bazar, with rickshaws and cars available from the market area. The walk goes uphill, so wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

The temple marks the spot where, according to Hindu texts, the right arm of Goddess Sati fell, making it one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. This mythological connection draws pilgrims who want to pray at this special place of spiritual power.
