Chittagong University Museum, University museum at Hathazari Upazila, Bangladesh
The Chittagong University Museum is a facility with four galleries on the first floor displaying artifacts from more than a thousand years of Bangladesh history. The collection includes finds from archaeological sites such as Mainamati and Mahasthan as well as objects from different cultures and time periods.
The museum was founded in 1973 as a collection from the Department of History and began with a fossil fish find from the Nasirabad hills. Over time, the collection grew through excavations from various historical sites across the region.
The museum displays archaeological finds from across Bangladesh with ancient coins, manuscripts, and sculptures spanning different periods. The objects on show tell the story of trade networks and religious traditions that shaped the region over centuries.
The museum is housed in a well-equipped building with wheelchair access throughout all areas, making it accessible for visitors with mobility needs. Guests should note the opening hours and allow enough time to explore all four galleries at a comfortable pace.
The institution houses a specialized library focused on iconography, epigraphy, and numismatics that offers rare academic resources. This collection supports researchers and enables deeper studies into the displayed artifacts and their cultural significance.
