Chittagong Zoo, Zoo near Foy's Lake in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Chittagong Zoo is an animal facility near Foy's Lake that houses hundreds of animals of different species, including large carnivores, birds, and reptiles across about 10 acres (4 hectares). The grounds are laid out so visitors can observe the animals from walkways, with distinct areas for different groups of species.
The facility was established in 1989 and started with around 20 animals from a few species on a smaller plot of land. Since then it has been expanded and now houses a diverse collection of animals.
The zoo serves as a place where school groups and families come to observe animals up close and learn about their natural habitats. Visitors bring children here to introduce them to wildlife and understand why protecting animals matters.
The zoo is easily accessible and it is recommended to visit in the early morning when the animals are most active and it is less crowded. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and prepare for considerable walking and possible heat, as the grounds are largely open.
In 2018 Bangladesh's first white tiger was born here, an extraordinary event for the region. This made the zoo a special attraction for visitors wanting to see this rare animal.
