Satkhira District, Administrative district in southwestern Bangladesh.
Satkhira District extends over 3,817 square kilometers along the border with West Bengal, India, featuring numerous rivers including Jamuna, Kalindi, and Arpangachhia.
The district originated as a subdivision of Jessore in 1852, with its headquarters in Kalaroa, before gaining independent district status in March 1984.
The district population includes 89 percent Muslims and 10 percent Hindus, maintaining traditions through boat races, horse races, and religious festivities throughout the year.
The region supports agriculture and aquaculture industries, with significant production of shrimp, mangoes, and jute for international export through Bhomra Port.
The district faces environmental changes due to saltwater infiltration into water supplies, affecting agricultural practices and daily life of its 2.1 million inhabitants.
