Ramna Park

Ramna Park is a large public green space in Dhaka featuring a central lake surrounded by mature trees and landscaped gardens connected by walking paths. The grounds include areas for exercise, children's play, and quiet walks.

The grounds were established in the 1600s and later underwent major redesign between 1908 and 1928 under British administration. This renovation introduced new gardening approaches that shaped the space into what visitors see today.

The park serves as the main gathering place for Bengali New Year celebrations, with traditional performances held beneath an ancient banyan tree each spring. These events draw visitors who come to experience how local communities mark this important cultural moment.

The grounds are open daily to visitors at no charge and feature designated areas for exercise and children's activities. Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to explore the walking paths, especially during the rainy season.

The grounds house over 200 plant species, including rare varieties such as African tulip trees and Javanese cassia that are uncommon in other regional parks. This variety makes each visit interesting regardless of the season.
