Kansat Zamindar Bari

Kansat Zamindar Bari is a palace in Shibganj Upazila that served as a residence for wealthy landowners during British rule. The building features decorated wooden details, thick pillars, and several courtyards arranged throughout the grounds.

The palace was built during British colonial times when wealthy landowners settled in this region and established their new base. These settlers moved from earlier areas like Koroi Jhakoir to strengthen their influence in the Nawabganj region.

The building reflects the lifestyle of wealthy landowners during colonial times through its separated family and guest areas. The design shows how social customs of that era shaped the way rooms and spaces were organized and used.

The palace is easiest to reach by taking a bus from Dhaka to Chapai Nawabganj, then using local transport to get there. The best time to visit is during the cooler months when the weather is more comfortable for exploring the grounds.

The name Kansat comes from Kongsohatta, an ancient royal seat that once stood on this same location. This connection to earlier royal history gives the building a deeper layer of meaning that most visitors overlook.
