Firoz Minar

Firoz Minar is a five-story tower in Kanakpur featuring multiple levels with different architectural forms as you move upward. The lower sections have twelve-sided bases while the upper portions transition to more rounded shapes.

A sultan of the Habshi dynasty commissioned this tower between 1485 and 1489 to commemorate military victories. The construction marked an important period in this region's history.

The tower displays geometric patterns and architectural details from the sultanate period that visitors notice while exploring its different levels. These crafted features reflect the building style that was common in this region during that era.

A spiral staircase with 73 steps allows you to climb inside the tower reaching the upper levels. The entrance is located about one kilometer from a local gate in the Malda district.

According to local records, the ruler had the chief architect thrown from the tower's top due to displeasure with its height. This dark episode remains part of the documented history surrounding the tower's construction.
