Maraing Taung, Hill and tourist destination in Ali Kadam Upazila, Bangladesh.
Maraing Taung is a hill in Ali Kadam with slopes ranging from gentle to steep, rising several hundred meters. From the summit, hikers see deep valleys, neighboring ridges, and the Bandarban landscape with forests and settlements below.
The hill formed through geological processes during the creation of the Bengal hills millions of years ago. This formation shaped the region's topography and became part of routes used by travelers crossing Bangladesh's hill country.
Chakma and other hill communities have long inhabited these slopes, using them for farming and daily life. Visitors can observe traditional dwellings and watch how people interact with the landscape.
Start early in the morning to allow time for the hike and return before dark. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water, as trails can be slippery and shade is scarce along the way.
On clear days, hikers can see three distinct forest types from the summit - rainforest, mixed woodland, and grassland - each thriving at different elevations. This visible diversity makes the climb a journey through different habitats.
