Fashiakhali Wildlife Sanctuary

Fashiakhali Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected forest area in Chakaria featuring mixed evergreen woodlands with dense shrubby growth, bamboo stands, and tree varieties such as Gurjan and Dhakijam. Patrol teams work to prevent illegal logging while visitors can explore designated trails on guided walks through the forest.

The sanctuary was established in 2007 under wildlife protection laws that traced back to 1947. The forest area had a long history of human settlement, including two villages that were founded in 1950.

The sanctuary is deeply connected to nearby villages, where residents practice traditional ways of life while taking part in forest management efforts. Local communities have adapted their activities to work alongside conservation goals in their region.

When visiting, expect forest trails and dense vegetation, so wear appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Wildlife is most active during early morning and late afternoon hours, which are the best times for observing animals.

The forest is home to Asian elephants, which are a rare sight in the region and make this one of the few places where they can be observed. The sanctuary also shelters a remarkable variety of frogs, salamanders, and reptiles that thrive in the forest's moist conditions.
