Fashiakhali Wildlife Sanctuary

The sanctuary encompasses 1,302 hectares of mixed evergreen forest with dense shrubby vegetation, bamboo patches, and diverse tree species including Gurjan and Dhakijam.

Established in 2007 under the Bangladesh Wildlife Preservation Amendment Act of 1947, the sanctuary emerged from a landscape that included two forest villages founded in 1950.

The sanctuary connects with sixteen villages housing 3,300 residents who maintain traditional practices while adapting to conservation requirements under local management committees.

The sanctuary maintains patrol groups to prevent illegal logging while offering guided tours through designated paths to observe Asian elephants and other wildlife species.

This conservation area protects 28 Asian elephants alongside 15 amphibian species, 35 reptile species, 25 mammal species, and 162 bird species within its boundaries.
