Maitri Setu, Road bridge between Sabroom, India and Ramgarh, Bangladesh.
Maitri Setu is a road bridge over the Feni River between Sabroom in India and Ramgarh in Bangladesh. The structure extends 1.9 kilometers (1.2 miles) in length and has two traffic lanes built from steel and concrete.
Construction began in June 2017 under the direction of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. Completion followed after several years of work and allowed a direct road connection at this point of the border river for the first time.
The name translates to Friendship Bridge and reflects closer economic cooperation between both neighboring countries. Traders and travelers now use the connection regularly for goods transport and personal contact across the border.
Cross the bridge during regular border post opening hours and keep travel documents ready. Traffic flows more calmly than at larger crossings and allows a relaxed handling of formalities.
Through this connection Agartala now lies closer to a seaport than many other Indian cities. Chittagong port is just 80 kilometers (50 miles) away and shortens trade routes considerably.
