Eau Rouge, Natural stream in Liège Province, Belgium
Eau Rouge is a river in Liège Province that flows for approximately 15 kilometers through Belgium's terrain. The water displays a reddish tint caused by iron oxide deposits that color the riverbed.
The river marked the boundary between the Netherlands and Prussia from 1815 to 1839. It later became the Belgium-Prussia border until 1919.
The stream shares its name with a renowned section of the Spa-Francorchamps racing circuit, where Formula One drivers navigate steep elevation changes.
The river originates in the Hautes Fagnes region and joins the Amblève near the town of Challes. Riverside paths along the watercourse offer the most direct views of the landscape.
The riverbed holds geological evidence that it follows the former course of the Warche River. This finding shows how regional water systems have shifted over time.
