Mol

Mol is a municipality in Antwerp Province within the Flemish region of Belgium that spreads across a large area. The territory features extensive forests, a network of lakes, and light-colored sand beaches shaped by historical sand mining activities.

The area around Mol grew from a small settlement centered on a Norbertine abbey founded in the 12th century close to the Dutch border. This religious community influenced the early development and structure of the settlement.

The Jakob Smits Museum displays paintings by artists from the local Molse School movement inside a former vicarage at Mol-Sluis. The collection reflects how regional painters shaped the area's artistic identity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The area offers a network of forests, lakes, and beach zones that work well for walking and water activities. The layout makes it easy to navigate between different natural spaces and explore at your own pace.

The Zilvermeer Provincial Park holds an underwater museum designed for divers, located within lakes that formed as a result of sand extraction operations. This project merges nature and exploration in an unusual way.
